It's not just a race. It's a lifestyle!™
In the summer of 2009, Michelle moved to Michigan and was introduced to a triathlon training team. Her experience was this: “In Michigan, I wasn’t working and had all the time in the world, what a blessing that was. I had ample time to train and learn more about running and cycling. Before that summer I had never learned how to swim and I would panic, begin crying and hyperventilating when I was in deep water. Spending countless hours teaching me how to swim, a close friend who is now my swim coach, helped me go from not being able to do one lap in the pool, to completing sprint triathlons. Although I am still nervous in open water, I work at getting better every day. I am so thankful for that summer.” Since her first sprint tri, Michelle knows that racing is what keeps her motivated. She has a full scheduled lined up for 2011. The two she is most excited for are Bay to Breakers and the Reno Tahoe Odyssey. 2011 Goals: Michelle has competed in multiple 5k’s, a sprint triathlon, and has summated Donner Pass a few times while cycling. “I actually don’t love to run. It’s more of a personal dare that keeps me going. The races are what I find fun, and by challenging myself I work on getting faster and stronger. As far as swimming goes, I get the most joy by being amazing that I went from sheer panic to having fun in the water. Now, I actually yearn to swim. I am excited to be on the R5K Team because it provides me with structure and proper coaching, which everyone needs at least once in their athletic career.” Michelle has an interest and slight background in sports nutrition, and would eventually like to become CISSN certified and a USAT certified coach. One of her biggest joys in the world of sports is motivating others to succeed and watching them accomplish health and wellness through movement. As Michelle knows from experience “Anyone can do anything; all they have to do is make a decision.”
