It's not just a race. It's a lifestyle!™

The Lace ‘Em Up Running Club is a new addition to Brown Elementary School to instill a healthier lifestyle in our kids. Here’s how it works. Every Tuesday and Thursday, all kids will be encouraged (keep in mind this is a voluntary program) to run or walk the designated course around the inside of the school’s playground during the 2pm recess. Two laps equals one mile. The goal? To have K-2nd graders complete half a marathon (13 miles) and 3-5th graders complete a marathon (26 miles!). Keep in mind they have the entire school year to do it. This is absolutely an achievable goal. Kids can also run/walk before school, after school, even on the weekends with their parents. Parent volunteers will keep track of their laps by hole punching their cards. Is Lace ‘Em Up making a difference? Absolutely! In the first month of the program, the kids have already run more than 1,000 miles!
